Forscher in Südafrika hoffen schon bis zum kommenden Jahr den ersten afrikanischen Covid-19-Impfstoff testen zu können. Das erklärten Vertreter des Biotech-Konsortiums in Kapstadt gegenüber der Nachrichtenagentur AFP. Sollte alles nach Plan verlaufen, könnten die klinischen Studien in weniger als einem Jahr beginnen, so die Wissenschaftler. Der durch die Weltgesundheitsorganisation unterstützte Zusammenschluss arbeitet mit dem bereits existenten Wirkstoff von Moderna, der allerdings an die afrikanischen Begebenheiten angepasst werden soll. Die Forscher wollen dabei unter anderem die Notwendigkeit der Lagerung bei extrem niedrigen Temperaturen umgehen.
