Die geplante Einführung einer pflichtmäßigen öffentlichen Krankenversicherung trifft auf großen Wiederstand. Dem Think-Tank Helen Suzman Foundation nach sei nicht ansatzweise zu erkennen, wie diese zu einem besseren Gesundheitssystem beitragen könne. Die HSF hatte ihren Einspruch gestern vor dem Parlament vorgestellt. Vielmehr könnte das NHI zu noch höheren Kosten im Gesundheitssektor. Der Gesetzesvorschlag behandele die Kosten des neuen Systems nur am Rande und beispielhaft. Eine vernünftige Machbarkeitsstudie gäbe es nicht. Die Idee der nationalen Krankenversicherung sei nicht generell schlecht, jedoch in dieser Form überhastet und kaum nachzuvollziehen, heißt es von der Foundation.
