Der Grafitabbau in der Okanjande/Okorusu-Mine könnte schon im kommenden Jahr wieder aufgenommen werden. Dies teilte das kanadische Bergbauunternehmen Northern Graphite mit. Demnach sei der Abbau von bis zu 31.000 Tonnen pro Jahr wirtschaftlich sinnvoll. Eine Tonne Grafitkonzentrat würde im Abbau umgerechnet etwa 11.000 Namibia Dollar kosten, wobei der Weltmarktpreis bei etwa 18.000 Dollar liege. Für die Inbetriebnahme des Bergwerks seien etwa 225 Millionen Namibia Dollar als Investition notwendig. Insgesamt sollen in dem Bergwerk knapp 1,7 Millionen Tonnen Grafit abbaubar sein.
