Der botswanische Staat ist mit seinen Rechtsmitteln gegen ein bahnbrechendes Urteil zur Homosexualität gescheitert. Dies berichtet die Presseagentur AFP. 2019 hatte das Obergericht Haftstrafen für homosexuelle Paare als verfassungswidrig erklärt. Der Staat ging hiergegen vor und verlor nun vor dem botswanischen Berufungsgericht. Seit 1965 ist Homosexualität in Botswana verboten. Es drohten Haftstrafen von bis zu sieben Jahren. Dies habe nun ein endgültiges Ende, sagte der Vorsitzende Richter. Homosexuelle hätten lange genug in Angst vor Entdeckung und Verhaftung gelebt, betonte Richter Ian Kirby.
