In Namibia wird nach Ansicht von Wirtschaftsexperten zu wenig Wertschöpfung betrieben. Der Großteil der Bodenschätze des Landes werde in Rohform exportiert, so der Geschäftsführer von High Economic Intelligence, Salomo Hei, in einem Interview mit der Nachrichtenagentur Nampa. Dies sei nicht die beste Herangehensweise für ein Entwicklungsland wie Namibia. Mit Blick auf die namibischen Uranvorkommen brachte er zudem die Möglichkeit eines Kernkraftwerks ins Spiel. Beim Diamantenabbau wiederum könne man sich ein Beispiel an Botswana nehmen, wo gerade mit dem Diamantenkonzern De Beers verhandelt werde, um die Wertschöpfung im Land zu halten. Auch in den Sektoren Fischerei und Landwirtschaft gebe es noch Potenzial.
