Namibia hat sich vorläufig auf ein Abkommen mit der Europäischen Union über den Verkauf seiner Seltenen Erden geeinigt. Laut der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters teilte dies nun Energieminister Tom Alweendo mit. Diese Metalle seien in Europa für die Nutzung erneuerbarer Energien notwendig. Dadurch soll die Abhängigkeit von Russland verringert werden, heißt es weiter. Für Namibia sei dieser Deal in allen Belangen sehr positiv und das Land werde direkt von seinen Bodenschätzen profitieren. Namibia verfügt über ein weltweit signifikantes Vorkommen Seltener Erden, darunter Dysprosium und Terbium, die zur Batterieherstellung unerlässlich seien.
