Das Erdölkartell OPEC will Namibia als neues Mitglied gewinnen. Dies berichtet Reuters unter Berufung auf eine interne Quelle. Ziel sei es, Namibia bis zum Jahr 2030 zum viertgrößten Erdölproduzenten in Afrika aufzubauen. Zuletzt verlor die Organisation mehrere Mitglieder, darunter im vergangenen Jahr Angola. Zunächst soll Namibia Teil der OPEC+ werden, wobei es vor allem darum geht, Nicht-Mitgliedstaaten durch Kooperationen mittelfristig als neue Mitglieder zu gewinnen. Der Vorsitzende der afrikanischen Energiekammer, NJ Ayuk, sprach davon, dass die OPEC Namibia derzeit intensiv umwirbt. Es würden bereits Gespräche hierzu laufen. Noch im März hatte Energieminister Tom Alweendo eine OPEC-Mitgliedschaft Namibias ausgeschlossen.
