Die neue Saison zur Ernte des Südafrikanischen Seebär an Namibias Küste hat begonnen. Dies teilte das Informationsministerium mit. Die Erntezeit gehe bis zum 15. November. Diesmal seien 60.000 Jungtiere und 8000 Bullen zur Jagd freigegeben worden, wie das Kabinett vergangene Woche beschloss. 70 Prozent der Tiere werden an der nördlichen, 30 Prozent an der südlichen Küste getötet. An der namibischen Küste leben letzten offiziellen Zahlen aus dem Jahr 2021 zufolge mindestens 1,4 Millionen sogenannte Ohrenrobben. Die Robbenjagd ist international unter anderem von der Europäischen Union geächtet. Namibias Robbenprodukte gehen vor allem nach Asien.
