Als Reaktion auf die stark gestiegenen Spritpreise reduziert Südafrika vorübergehend die Treibstoffabgaben. Die geringeren Abgaben sollen die Südafrikaner finanziell entlasste, erklärte Finanzminister Enoch Godongwana. Um die Maßnahme zu finanzieren, verkauft Südafrika Rohölreserven. Auch Namibia überlegt, vorübergehend die Treibstoffabgaben zu reduzieren. Das Energieministerium will mit dem Finanzministerium beraten, wie diese Maßnahmen finanziert werden kann. Die Gespräche sollen im April abgeschlossen sein.
