Teenager-Schwangerschaften bleiben weiterhin ein großes Hindernis für die Bildung von Mädchen in Namibia. Nach Angaben von Gesundheitsminister Kalumbi Shangula sind beinahe 20 Prozent der Teenagerinnen landesweit von ungewollten Schwangerschaften betroffen. Dies sorgt häufig für Schulabbrüche. 2019 mussten über 1.500 Schülerinnen so die Schule aufgrund einer Schwangerschaft vorzeitig verlassen. Am schlimmsten betroffen sind die Regionen Ohangwena, Omusati und Kavango-Ost. Shangula rief daher besonders Eltern auf, ihre Kinder aufzuklären. Zudem arbeite das Ministerium an vermehrten Optionen an Verhütungsmitteln für Männer.
