Binnen fünf Jahren soll ein 5G-Netz in Namibia aufgebaut werden. Dies fordert die Kommunikationsregulierungsbehörde CRAN. Der Strategieplan bis 2027 sei weiterhin für den öffentlichen Input offen. Vor zwei Jahren hatte die Regierung ein Moratorium verhängt, das nun aufgehoben werden sollte. Das Verbot hatte die weiteren Planungen zum neusten Mobilfunkstandard weitestgehend auf Eis gelegt. Bei den vorherigen Standards, darunter 4G, war Namibia immer ein Vorreiter auf dem Kontinent. Nun müsse auch 5G schnellstmöglich in Namibia implementiert werden, da es die Grundvoraussetzung für die Industrie 4.0 sei. MTC, Telecom Namibia und Paratus haben bisher öffentlich Interesse am 5G-Standard bekunden.
