Die Regierung hat einen verbesserten Schutz der Meere angemahnt. Vizefischereiministerin Silvia Makgone erklärte dazu, dass Namibia den Atlantik in den Bereichen Fischerei, Mineralienabbau, Tourismus und Transport nutzen würde. Zudem seien viele Namibier auf das Meer als Lebensgrundlage angewiesen. Bedrohungen wie Verschmutzung oder Überfischung könnten daher Ungleichheiten noch vergrößern. Die Regierung plant bis 2022 einen Regulierungsplan für die maritime Wirtschaft vorzulegen. Aktuell würden dazu Konsultationen mit den verschiedenen Interessensträgern des Landes stattfinden.
