Japan hat 3.000 Tonnen Reis an Namibia gespendet. Premierministerin Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila nahm die Spende heute entgegen. Dabei erklärte sie: „Dieser Reis wird an drei Regionen gehen, die von Dürre betroffen sind: Kunene, Teile von Omusati und Teile von Erongo. Das wird über die nächsten drei Monate passieren. Die Spende kommt genau zu richtigen Zeit, in Anbetracht der schrumpfenden Wirtschaft in unserem Land.“ Der jüngste Regen habe vielen Gemeinschaften dringend benötigte Entlastung gebracht. Trotzdem sei die Dürre-Hilfe der Regierung bis Juni 2022 verlängert worden. Die Reisspende hat einen Wert von rund N$ 38 Millionen.
