Zur abgelaufenen Ferienzeit wurden in Namibia insgesamt 1758 Kriminalfälle registriert. Das teilte Vize-Polizeichef Elias Mutota gestern mit. Im Jahresvergleich bedeutet das einen Anstieg von 8 Prozent. Gleichzeitig ging die Zahl der verhafteten Verdächtigen um beinahe 8 Prozent auf knapp über 700 Personen zurück. Die mit Abstand meisten Fälle wurden im Bereich der geschlechtsspezifischen Gewalt verzeichnet, gefolgt von Betrug und Viehdiebstahl. Laut Mutota sei der Anstieg der Kriminalität zur Ferienzeit vor allem durch einen Anstieg des Alkohol- und Drogenkonsums zu erklären. Zudem würden sozio-ökonomische Faktoren wie die hohe Arbeitslosigkeit eine Rolle spielen.
