Namibia importiert 96 Prozent aller Früchte aus dem Ausland. Laut dem Landwirtschaftsrat NAB kommt die meiste Ware dabei aus Südafrika. Landesweit gebe es aktuell nur 87 Farmer in Namibia, die Früchte anbauen. Das seien in erster Linie Trauben, Mangos und Zitrusfrüchte. Durch das geringe Angebot und die hohe Nachfrage seien Früchte zuletzt um fast 15 Prozent teurer geworden. Der Landwirtschaftsrat will daher Entwicklungsmaßnahmen ausarbeiten, um die Fruchtproduktion in Namibia zu erhöhen.
