Die namibische Hafenbehörde Namport setzt auf ein Wachstum beim Abbau von Lithium in Namibia. Bisher sollen in diesem Jahr bereits 25.000 Tonnen Lithiumerz nach China exportiert worden sein. Noch in diesem Monat sollen 50.000 weitere Tonnen verschifft werden. Die Rohstoffe kommen von der Xingfeng-Mine in der Nähe von Omaruru. Umgekehrt importierte diese zuletzt insgesamt 80 Kippwagen aus China, um die Kapazität der Mine anzukurbeln. Die Betreiber der Firma, Xinfeng Investments, waren vor einigen Monaten in die Schlagzeilen geraten, weil sie Bohrungen ohne die notwendige Umweltverträglichkeitsbescheinigung durchgeführt haben sollen.
