Das Veterinäramt hat den Ausbruch der Vogelgrippe in der Erongo-Region für beendet erklärt. Laut Chef-Veterinär Albertina Shilongo sei Mitte März der letzte Fall bestätigt worden. Insgesamt waren seit Januar entlang der Küstenlinie zwischen Swakopmund und Walvis Bay mehr als 1.000 Vögel durch das H5N1-Virus verendet. In erster Linie waren Kormorane betroffen. Das Veterinäramt verkündete zudem, dass sämtliche Beschränkungen im Zusammenhang mit dem Ausbruch wieder aufgehoben seien. Gleichzeitig seien Farmer in der Region jedoch weiterhin zu erhöhter Wachsamkeit aufgerufen.
