Wasserminister Calle Schlettwein hat dem Bergbau in wichtigen Grundwassergebieten eine Absage erteilt. Dies sollte nicht mehr ermöglicht werden, da Namibia 60 Prozent seiner unterirdischen Trinkwasserreserven nutze, berichtet der Namibian. Er sprach explizit unter anderem die geplanten Uran-Explorationen bei Stampriet in der Kalahari an. Die Regierung müsse auch laufende Aktivitäten in solchen sensiblen Wassergebieten stoppen. Niemals könne man in einen Wettbewerb des Bergbaus mit Trinkwasserreserven eintreten, so Schlettwein.
