Seit der Ausweitung der Corona-Impfkampagne auf alle Einwohner ab zwölf Jahren sind in Südafrika fast 62.000 Jugendliche geimpft worden. Das teilte das Gesundheitsministerium des Landes mit. Sie erhielten eine Einfachimpfung mit dem Wirkstoff von Pfizer, der auch in Namibia zum Einsatz kommt. Die Regierung in Südafrika hofft, bis zum Beginn der Schulferien am 15. Dezember rund drei Millionen Kinder zu impfen. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, müsste die aktuelle Impfrate allerdings beinahe versechsfacht werden. Insgesamt gelten im Nachbarland mittlerweile knapp unter zwölf Millionen Menschen als vollständig geimpft.
