Die Demokratische Republik Kongo hat offenbar bisher noch keinen Gebrauch von ihren Fangrechten für insgesamt rund 27.000 Tonnen Bastardmakrelen gemacht. Das geht aus einem Bericht des Namibian hervor. Demnach habe das Land allerdings nur noch bis Ende des Jahres Zeit. Andernfalls würden die Fangrechte verfallen. Fischereiminister Derek Klazen bestätigte die Frist gegenüber der Zeitung und erklärte, dass es keine Verlängerung geben werde. Zudem könnten Fangrechte nicht in die kommende Saison übertragen werden. Die aktuelle Saison endet am 31. Dezember. Die Regierung der DRC hat für die Fangrechte rund N$ 86 Millionen gezahlt.
