Die Preise für Lebensmittel in Namibia sind im zweiten Quartal deutlich angestiegen. Laut der Statistikbehörde NSA lag die Inflationsrate für Lebensmittel bei 7,1 Prozent. Im Jahresvergleich bedeutet das einen Anstieg von 2,5 Prozent. Vor allem die Preise für Fleisch zogen dabei mit über 16 Prozent deutlich an, in erster Linie getrieben von hohen Geflügelpreisen. Nach Angaben der NSA verzeichnete Namibia im Untersuchungszeitraum zudem beim Fleisch ein Handelsdefizit von rund N$ 35 Millionen. Derweil mussten die Verbraucher zuletzt auch für Speiseöle, Früchte und Gemüse tiefer in die Tasche greifen.
