Das Mobilfunkunternehmen MTC hat eine Aufhebung des 5G-Moratoriums in Namibia gefordert. Marketingchef Tim Ekandjo erklärte dazu auf einer Pressekonferenz in der vergangenen Woche, dass eine Digitalisierung der Industrie (Industrie 4.0) ohne 5G nicht denkbar sei. Eine Aufrüstung auf den neusten Mobilfunkstandard hätte erhebliche Auswirkungen auf alle Aspekte unseres digitalen Lebens, so Ekandjo weiter. Die meisten afrikanischen Länder würden daher mittlerweile auf den neusten Mobilfunkstandard setzen. Die Verzögerungen in Namibia führte Ekandjo vor allem auf Verschwörungsmythen zu 5G zurück.
