Die geplante Förderung von Erdöl würde Namibias Bruttoinlandsprodukt innerhalb eines Jahrzehnts verdoppeln. Dies teilte Bergbauminister Tom Alweendo mit. Man rechne damit, dass 55 Prozent der Einnahmen der Förderung im Land verbleiben würden. Dies begründe sich auf Abgaben und Steuern. Hinzu kämen zehn Prozent des Gewinns, die durch die Anteile der staatlichen Namcor garantiert seien. Namibia könne so umgerechnet bis zu 90 Milliarden Namibia Dollar pro Jahr machen. Während die Regierung derzeit von einer Produktionsaufnahme bis 2028 ausgeht, sehen Analysten eher einen Zeitraum zwischen 2029 und 2032 für den Beginn der Erdölförderung.
