Fischereiminister Derek Klazen hat eine mögliche Bevorzugung einzelner Regionen bei der Vergabe von Fischereirechten abgelehnt. Bei einer Rede in Walvis Bay erklärte er, dass einige Bewohner der Küstenstadt in dem Irrglauben leben würden, ein natürliches Vorrecht auf die maritimen Rohstoffe Namibias zu haben. Laut dem Minister handele es sich jedoch um nationale Ressourcen, die allen Namibiern zu Gute kommen müssten. Auch wenn Antragssteller aus Walvis Bay vielleicht besser qualifiziert seien, müssten bei der Vergabe von Fangquoten trotzdem alle Regionen gleichberechtigt einbezogen werden, so Klazen weiter.
