Das Gesundheitsministerium hat einen Masern-Ausbruch in Namibia bekannt gegeben. Demnach wurden in der Omusati-Region insgesamt 23 Verdachtsfälle vermeldet. Vier davon konnten durch Labortests bestätigt werden. Dabei handelt es sich um Schüler aus einer Schule nahe der angolanischen Grenze. Die ersten Symptome wurden bereits im April verzeichnet. Masern sind eine hochansteckende Infektionskrankheit. Typische Symptome sind Fieber und ein rötlicher Hautausschlag. Bei schweren Krankheitsverläufen sind Masern tödlich. Todesfälle gab es im Zusammenhang mit dem jüngsten Ausbruch nach Angaben der Behörden allerdings noch nicht.
