Die SADC-Mission gegen islamistische Terroristen in Mosambik hat heute offiziell begonnen. Hierzu reiste der botswanische Staatspräsident Mokgweetsi Masisi, als Vorsitzender des SADC-Büros für Verteidigung und Sicherheit, nach Pemba. Die SAMIM soll die mosambikanischen Truppen im Kampf gegen die Gewalt in der Provinz Cabo Delgado unterstützen. Hier treiben islamistische Gruppierungen seit Jahren ihr Unheil. Neben Botswana haben auch Südafrika und Simbabwe Truppen entsandt. Zudem kämpft die Armee Ruandas bereits seit einiger Zeit vor Ort und konnte bereits eigenen Angaben nach große Erfolge feiern.
