Namibia benötigt ein nachhaltiges Waldmanagement und muss die willkürliche Waldrodung in den Regionen Kavango und Sambesi stoppen. Dies war das Ergebnis einer Gesprächsrunde verschiedener Experten in Windhoek. Demnach müssten lokale Gemeinschaften aufgeklärt, entsprechende Gesetze erneuert und vor allem durchgesetzt werden. Clemens von Doderer, Leiter der Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung in Namibia, sagte dabei: „In den letzten 30 Jahren haben wir 25 Prozent unserer Wälder verloren. In den kommenden 30 Jahren müssen wir das umdrehen und wieder zum Wachstum unserer Wälder beitragen.“ Hintergrund der Diskussion war das Problem der hohen internationalen Nachfrage. Daraus resultiert illegale Waldrodung in Namibia.
