Das Informationsministerium will einen Fonds zur Verbesserung des Internetzugangs in ländlichen Gebieten einrichten. Durch den Fonds soll der Ausbau von über 120 Funkmasten auf 4G-Standard finanziert werden. Zudem will die Regierung 36 weitere Masten in ländlichen Gebieten aufstellen. Laut Vizeinformationsministerin Emma Theofelus sollen davon vor allem Schulen und Kliniken auf dem Land profitieren. Die Einrichtungen sollen dann auch mit WLAN-Routern ausgestattet werden. Laut Theofelus hätten aktuell 79 Prozent der Bevölkerung Zugang zum 4G-Netz in Namibia. 95 Prozent könnten zumindest auf 2G oder 3G zugreifen.
